LCD  (2010 – 2018)

LCD stems from a series of photographs taken between 2010 and 2018. The subject is a laptop’s monitor connected to various video roulette sites, free and open access platforms that allow users to connect via webcam with other users around the world. You cannot choose your partner; the connection is random, and with one click you can move on to the next connection, abandoning your partner or being abandoned.

These processes of exhibitionism, which run parallel to those of voyeurism, are not only evident on the web and on television, but have also slowly made their way into private lives. Feelings and relationships, even the most intimate ones, are environments in which we increasingly look at ourselves from the outside, like voyeurs of our own life. All this goes with a growing need to connect with as many people as possible.

The period of time in which these images were taken coincides with an incredible transformation and spread of this practice. At first, it was the need to show oneself and watch, without this necessarily has an erotic or sexual connotation, but it quickly became a mere exhibition of one’s body and its self-projections. In recent years, it has become a real job, and a rather lucrative one at that. Like any commercial practice, the consequence has been a total homologation.

LCD nasce da una serie di fotografie scattate tra il 2010 ed il 2018. Il soggetto è il monitor di un computer collegato a vari siti di video roulette, piattaforme ad accesso libero e gratuito che permettono di collegarsi tramite webcam con altri utenti dell’intero pianeta. Il partner non si può scegliere, il collegamento avviene casualmente e con un click si può passare al collegamento successivo, abbandonando il partner o essendo abbandonati.

Questi processi di esibizionismo che viaggiano paralleli a quelli del voyeurismo, non si manifestano solo sul web e in televisione, ma, lentamente, si sono fatti spazio anche nella vita privata. I sentimenti, le relazioni, anche le più intime, sono ambienti in cui ci guardiamo sempre più dal di fuori, come voyeuristi di noi stessi. Tutto ciò si accompagna ad un crescente bisogno di connessione con il maggior numero possibile di persone.

Il periodo di tempo in cui queste immagini sono state scattate coincide con una incredibile trasformazione e diffusione di questa pratica. All’inizio è stato il bisogno di mostrarsi e guardare, senza che questo avesse per forza una connotazione erotica o sessuale, per diventare rapidamente una mera esibizione del proprio corpo e delle sue proiezioni . Fino a divenire, negli ultimi anni, un vero e proprio lavoro, anche piuttosto redditizio. Come ogni pratica commerciale, la conseguenza è stata l’omologazione totale.
